I have an EV-27 in my 89 springer and I love it.

Got in my parts. Went with EV-27 cam, torrington bearing, sticking with stock push rods, and V thunder lifters. Any odd ball tools I should be looking at to make this job easier. I have access to everything I think I need but I am wrong sometimes. I was reading about a Jim's tool to pull cam bearing? Necessary or possible to go without? Any other hints/tips greatly appreciated.

Theres a guy on hdtechtalk that makes a tool hat pulls and installs cam bearings and it's cheaper than the Jims tool. Sorry, I don't have a link.

I just changed mine out with the Jims Tools puller and installer, and it is about a 5 minute job as the tools work excellent. I got both off of e-bay used. All the work is getting to it. You do need a 1/4"drive 1/4" 12 point socket to remove the lifter blocks that are available at Sears Stores, and a 1/4" allen socket for the cam cover bolts.

If there's an Autozone near by,go in and tell them you want a blind hole bearing puller. They have a loan program where you give them around a 150 dollar deposit, they loan it to you and when you bring it back, they give you your money back. Can't beat it.

You should also have a lifter block alignment tool.
