Unhappy Removal of Hydraulic Lifter Oil Filter Screen?

Damn thing won't come out. Tried loosening it up with PB Blaster, but no luck. Been using a flat head screw driver but can't get enough torque/bite on it to break it loose. Managed to put a nice gouge in the gear case cover though. Total frustration that something this simple is kicking my ***...

Is there a special tool or technique to get this done or should I get Medieval on it?

Depending on how mouch of a hurry you are in you can do one of two things. First you can keep spraying it with solvent and hope it comes loose, or go to the dealer and pick up a replacement screen and spring. Then insert a decent sized screw in there and pull it out. I am guessing there is no spring under it.

If you are refering to the large screw on top of the pump, most folks use one of these:

Or, get a new part from Harley, lay a sturdy screwdriver on the RH edge of the slot and give it a good tap/rap with a hammer-(drive it in the direction of loosening). Protect the rest of the bike and you don't need to wallop it, just tap it to break it free...

Next time I take mine off I'm going to replace it with some sort of acorn nut/bolt.

Some screwdrivers, I know my craftsman are like this. The handle is shaped so you can fit a wrench over it, it's like a 7/8 or 1" I don't remember but then you just have to hold the screwdriver in place and turn the wrench. Or you can put an adjustable wrench way low on the screw driver right next to what you are removing to help turn it.

I've used a 3/8 Impact driver with a modified drag link socket. Just lightly tap the impact driver while turning counter clockwise has always worked for me.

Great tool while working on motorcycle parts....

+1 on what EVOrider said. A must have to do fork oil too. This is a cheap HF one.

Its worked for me the few times I have had to use it.

I just used a piece of flat metal that fit the slot, along with vise grips on the metal strip. Worked well for me.
