what oil do you use

Some companys make oils just for air cooled engines, such as Valvolene.
They have the 20-50 for auto use and the 20-50 with the "M" for motorcycle
and air cooled engines.
I was lead to believe only to use the "M" class oil in motorcycles because
of the different phosphorus/zinc content of the "M" oils.
Just a thought.

Ah, the million dollar question. We are an independent lab, so we don't make recommendations. It has been our experience that oil is oil, and either petroleum or synthetic-based oil will work well for just about any engine.
Come on, you're holding out on me. I should use synthetic, right? Buddy, you should use whatever you want. Synthetic oil won't guarantee a longer engine life any more than my eating organic food will guarantee I'll live until I'm 90. We here at Blackstone generally use regular petroleum-based oil because honestly, it works just as well for us.

I hate to open these threads since opinions vary so much, but I'm throwing caution to the wind and throwing my two cents in. Since much of the oil debates revolve around synthetic vs. Dino, I run semi-synthetic 20-50, that way who ever wins the debate when all is said and done, I'm on the winning side. I put Harley primary/transmission fluid in the primary and the same stuff mixed with Mobil1 gear lube in the tranny. No matter what you dump in, I think changing it more frequently than required does more to prolong your ride than anything else does.

I just started using the harley screaming eagle synthetic in all 3 holes and funney thing happened for the past year I've had a problem with my clutch grabbing real hard in first gear starts if I gave too much throttle and released the clutch too quick and since using the screaming eagle I have 100 % improvement. As for the gearbox and engine I can't really say there is any differnce, the rockers still do there dance.

For the first 40k or so I used Harley fluids and for the next 60k+ I have been using the absolute cheapest dinosaur 20w-40 oil I can get my hands on. Usually I wind up buying store-brand oil in the gallon container. My engine's bottom end has never been worked on and the top-end has only been done twice for leaking base gaskets. The bike has over 105k miles on it and I change the oil every 2000 miles with a new filter every-other oil change (every 4000 miles). My average oil change is about $10.
