Also to keep tongue from moving side to side , Install small screws on left and right ,to make a slot on the tank seat mount. Opening the width of the tongue.
I have a 96 roadking as well with a 97,& up seat.Seat was on it when i bought the bike.I didnt try cutting the tongue but I like the tips im reading for a tighter fit.I recently bought a used solo seat for 100 bucks that im playing with. Not sure what its off of but it has the proper horizontal plate that slides under the tongue on the tank.Only problem is it rides up too far on the dash.Im thinking of cutting it back and having it re-apolstered.Anyone ever try that?Just trying to get comfortable.
One hurdle you would have to contend with ... 96-03 Dyna >Tongue is on the Seat ... 95-earlier Dyna >Tongue is on the Frame
.
Exactly...without having a 96-03 seat in my possession, the thought was to fabricate something that will slip over/under/on the tongue of the frame to become a receiver or "socket" (for lack of a better term) to accept the narrower tang on the later style seat. Again just thinking out loud, but where there is a will there is a way.

I haven't looked for this particular solution, but the first thing I would do is go to the Bay and compare Pics of the 96-03 tongue location within the seat pan and compare to 95-earlier strap on the seat pan.
