hi i'm gabriele from italy,
i have a king classic of 1998 inj, and i have 33,500 miles,
how many time during one evo?
what i can make at this miles for reserve my engine?
33,500 miles is not a lot for an Evo. I have 77,000 on my bike and many have over 100K. Replace the inner cam bearing if it has not been done. It may be getting time for some new lifters as well, otherwise, change the oils regularly and ride.
I have the same bike, 75K and minimal problems so far. I'll rebuild it at 100K, top end anyway.
Welcome to HDF. By the time your bike gets round to a 100k miles the bottom end will also be worn. There is a risk that if you sharpen up the top end the improved performance will soon wreck the bottom end! So with a high mileage I really do suggest you do the whole motor.
I have 156,000 miles on my '94 Heritage Softail. The motor was rebuilt at 85,000 miles as a consequence of a lifter failure, even though the top end was still sound (good compression, low oil consumption). These days I change the lifters every 40,000 miles to be safe, but my engine currently has 150 psi compression in both cylinders and uses about a cup of oil in 2500 miles, so I'm gonna run it. As long as you have good lifters and a Torrington cam bearing there's no reason an Evo shouldn't get 100,000 miles or more between rebuilds.
The lifters just wear out. That oil screen virtually never catches anything on an Evo. Most of us don't even bother checking it. I mean, you checked it at 2K miles, 4K, 10K, screw it. On a Shovelhead with clutch bits flowing through the engine oil, you really needed it.
