+1 on the cam, I replaced the stock HD cam in my 93 fatboy with a Crane 296-2 bolt-in cam with the gear in the 4 degree advanced position, BIG DIFFERENCE.

I've did quite a bit of reading on EVO performance boosts and without stroking the motor the tuneable Supertrapp , cam and carb kit with air cleaner is about all that can be done for big differnce performance. I put a HQ Rumble Stick cam in my 89 flhtp and noticed a big time differnce above 3 grand. I also have the HQ carb kit that I have to put back in.

As far as bang for the buck AND reliability, the cam, a torrington inner cam bearing, aftermarket lifters, re-jetted carb and free-flowing exhaust and air cleaner will do the trick. The Evolution heads flow very well for mild hop-ups (much better than stock TC heads) and mild cams do not require replacement of the stock valves or springs. Your bike has better lifters than earlier Evos, but I still would recommend replacing them with a cam change and using better quality ones like Crane.
