I also had an FXR. It was the best handling bike Harley ever produced.
There was a great uproar when Harley discontinued the FXR model for regular production.
When Harley made a limited number of FXRs, they sold out every time. There is still a small number of us that loved the FXR.
Someday, If I get extra money to afford more than one Harley, I want to buy another FXR. It was the best riding Harley I ever owned.

Don't confuse the FX and the FXR. The frames have virtually nothing in common. FXs are solid mount, FXRs are rubber mount. FX has way more in common with Softail (FXst) then an FXR. FXR is much closer to the rubber mount touring models. The Dyna series was HDs answer to the calls for a bike that retained the classic lines of the early FXs with the benefits of a rubber mounted engine.

IMHO, no insult to FXR owners past or present, but I think the frame & side covers on the FXR make it look too much like a Rice Burner Bike...
I feel the same about the FLT's, Road Kings, etc., that some folks have taken the bags & fairings off of...
Those side covers ruin the classic lines & style of Big Twin H-D's IMHO...
Peace.
