Wow that's interesting. I would enjoy exploring the abandoned ones with my metal detector. I am sort of a history buff, and the WWII years are my favorite.

A dream vaca for me would be visiting some of the sites I've read and watched so many movies and shows about. I would like to visit both European theaters as well as the pacific. Maybe find an artifact and touch a piece of living history.

Like I said. Bucket list.

I noticed no difference in handling between Dunlops and Venoms, but I did notice the lack of tread on Venoms, which makes me seriously doubt their road-holding in the rain. I can't say I recall riding in much rain in the 15K the Venom lasted til the cords suddenly showed, but I can say I've ridden in a LOT of rain with Dunlops, both 401 and 491, with zero problems.

I hear you mp. I just wanted to try something different. If I hate the avons at least then I'll know. I used to think grape jelly was great, until I found strawberry jam. You know?

mp, Avons are designed and made in the green and pleasant lands of the UK, where we know all about rain! I have used Venoms since they were introduced and have ridden thousands of miles in the rain. They are the tops! Not only that they give a smoother ride and better handling in all conditions.

Are there any major differences between the Avon Venom and the Avon Roadrider? I can get a Roadrider front tire pretty reasonable.

Price, as you mention, plus Venoms are a higher spec better suited to heavier bikes. See Avons website to compare Roadriders with Venoms. You can also see what tyres Avon recommend for your model.
