Hopefully you checked the end play on the old cam before you pulled it out so you know what spacer to use too much and it's noisy and can be hard on the cam followers too little and it could be tight. There is a pinion upgrade kit but not sure why you would need to change it. I run the 89 style but if you have to buy one its more expensive than the newer style. .105 pins for sure and it is very precise. If your cam was changed out on you there is a good chance the cam and pinion were not matched (unless the dots match). When you install it bolt up the cam cover without the lifterblocks in place I remove the cam seal as well, put the timing rotor screw in the end of the cam and pull it in and out, it should have some drag. Also see if there is any back lash in the gear as if there is the noise can drive you crazy trying to figure out what it is.
