Upgrade swingarm
#51
Let me resurrect this old thread. I'm new to the forums, this is my first post. Anyways, I have a '94 fxr, and am in the process of upgrading the swingarm to an '06 flh swingarm. I have about everything to get started, just wanted to clear up a couple things. First, will the fxr shocks mount to the flh swingarm? The mounts are different, wondering if i need to get a pair of flh shocks. I got a swingarm with matching wheel, axle, caliper, pulley, and all the goodies, all from the same doner bike. How wide of a tire can I put on that wheel and make it fit without rubbing something? I'm tinking a 150, but not for sure. I will be converting to the narrow belt. I'm using the CCE retrofit kit. Any other advice will be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi KY and welcome to HDF from the UK. I can't answer your question about the shocks, so offer up your current ones and see if they will work. With a 1 1/8" narrow belt you should be able to get in a 150/80 with a belt guard. I have an 07 swingarm in my 1990 Glide and that came with the narrow guard, which I think was introduced that year.
As for tyres, the next limitation is rim width and 150 is the widest recommended for a 3" rim. The next limitation is fender width. With a bit of stretching and magic I have squeezed in a 160, but a 150 is the widest otherwise.
