Default '97 Police Edition

Gents,
Looking at a '97 Ultra Police Edition. I didn't know they did that to the Ultra's back then. It's badged on the front fender and tank. It's two toned dark blue and light blue, and looks like a motor-officer bike. It has about 43K on the clock, is FI, and service is unknown. Only seen pics and it appears to have slip ons, so assuming stage 1 done. Knowing all of this, what am I looking at to make it a dependable 2-up tourer? Cam brg? tappets? What am I missing? Did the police edition have a hotter cam back then? Is the FI a POS? What made it different besides the badging? Is it a known performer? Trying to figure out my out of pocket costs. Thanks guys!

I've got a '95 Police Edition. As for as I know, it's just the color scheme and badges, with a stock 80 incher. Mine has a carb and I don't know much about the FI. Got any pictures you can post, how much they asking for it? 43K isn't high mileage on these bikes.

Thanks,
Bike is on e-bay and is just like yours but not as nice. The guy has just had it since Christmas, fell in to finacial hard times and needs to unload it. Not many pics in the add and the ones there look to be from when he just bought it. Looks like the price tag is still hanging from the handlebars. I've asked for more pics but nothing yet. It's a no reserve auction with the price starting at $7500. Think I'm going to pass it up, that old fuel injection scares me.

I wouldn't let the EFI system scare you off though. It really isn't that bad of a system, with a good shop manual and help from this website....you can figure it out.

I use to cuss this system to the end. High idle, low idle, hard to start when cold, and erratic idle. Had this bike long enough....now when those problems arise, it is no big deal.

And if the whole Magnetti Marelli EFI system is too much for you.....install a carburetor and sell the EFI stuff.

I looked at the bike on ebay, and unless it's got some underlying problem, I'd say it's well worth $7,500.

KBB's got it at around 7500, I would think the way things are nowadays, you could find a better deal, unless you're in love with it.

FI is great.. it is a little tougher when changing pipes and stuff but for a rider, it cant be beat.. my 01 has over 50k on it, it runs like new..
