Very hard to shift,

Very hard to shift,
I have an 87 softail with a barnett scorpion clutch in it. It is very hard to shift especially from first into second. I have adjusted the clutch a few times and have tried a few different oils in the primary.
Does anyone have any ideas on what could be causing this or what to check for?
Thanks

What do you have for free play on the lever? Where does your clutch begin to engage as you are letting it out? With the clutch pulled in, when you drop into 1st gear, does the engine slow down or does the bike try to pull forward?? Have you checked your tranny oil for proper oil level lately?
please explain the steps you are using when you adjust your clutch unless you go by the manual.
Wayne.

Scrubdog,
The guy I talked to at Barnett told me to use approximately one pint of Ford Type F ATF.
Get the bike in an upright position and fill the primary through the derby cover hole watching the level come up to where the clutch shell is dipping into the level but the oil is not going into the shell. This allows the shell to throw oil around to lube the primary chain and sprockets but not get the clutch plates wet with oil. If you are filling a totally dry primary (like when the the inner and outer primary covers have been off), check and top off the level a couple of times within the first couple of miles to make sure you have sufficient oil in there.
If you don't have the instructions to install or work on the Scorpion clutch, get some from Barnett, there are some specifics and useful pictures in the instructions you will want when you do get into it. They can sell you tools for the clutch as well...or you can make them if you are handy.
If your clutch is not dragging at a stop in gear then your shifting problem must be in the linkage or inside the trans.

Just bought a 1996 FLHT with a Ultra 107 and a Barnett Scorpion clutch. The dealer that sold it to me said the clutch need one of the two clutch shams removed. Maybe someone can help. Hard to shift and can not put it in natural when it's runs. The clutch lever is tight so not a cable issue. I removed the derby and tried to adjust the clutch adjustment screw. Loosed lock nut and turned it 1/4 turn clockwise. But it started slipping so. put it back where it was. Any ideal? I see many blogs where others having this problem. Read everything from oil to change clutch springs. Any truth to remove one of the shams or what that just something the dealer out of state was bullshitting me. Any help please.
