Hey bobhog, welcome to the EVO forum. Not everyone is gonna search for your original post on the touring site so you might want to kinda start over. As I understand you've checked/changed numerous things on your bike and it was running like crap. So you removed the new plugs and replaced them with the old after cleaning them. Now it seems to be working. So, as Hackd said, what's the question?

Pull the float bowl off the carb, spray some carb cleaner up into the carb, you could have some debris in the bowl that is getting between the needle and seat, causing the carb to overflow, causing an over rich condition.

How often do you take it out, and when you do, how long do you ride? Is the fuel fresh? What does it look like in the tank, can you see any rust? Are you running with a fuel filter and is it new? Is your enrichener not pushing back in all the way? Have to agree with Dan89, it seems to point to a carb/over rich condition. Besides debris you could have some varnish in there as well.

How clean is the air filter?? Was there any work done on it before it started acting up? Try a NEW set of Autolites, and are the plugs dry or wet when they start acting up??
After you answer these then we can evaluate the problem a little better and be able to ask better questions. Hope this helps.
