On the evening of April 11, I got run off the road while in my Jeep. It was in the city and I ended up jumping a high curb at 45 mph because I had to change lanes quickly because the vehicle on the inboard lane quickly changed lanes into the outboard lane while I was alongside.

I blew my horn and hit the brakes etc. When the person saw what they did they floored it and sped off. I pulled over into a parking lot and didn’t see any damage. Someone else pulled over that saw what happened and checked if I was alright.

Two fingers, my knuckles, wrist, elbow, and shoulder were hurting a lot from the wheel being jerked out of my hands when I jumped the curb. Of course it was my right hand and I am right handed.

I took some dual action advil and immobilized my hand wrist and finger with a sleeve type of thing. A few days later the pain was still getting worse and worse and I couldn’t stand it anymore.

After I got off work a few days ago, I went to an urgent care facility near my house.

I got X-rays and a splint out on my pinky finger because it is broken. They gave me pain medicine which worked ok for a couple of days but then stopped working. They also are referring me to an orthopedic surgeon.

This is from the X-ray report.Alignment is normal.

There is an acute chip fracture involving base of the distal findings of the fifth finger. The fracture in-laws the articular surface at the base of the distal phalanx and the fracture fragment is mildly displaced dorsally with a separation/step-off along the articular surface.

No carpal bone abnormality seen.

The osteoarthritis of multiple DIP joints is present.

No radiopaque foreign body in the soft tissues is present.

IMPRESSION:

Acute chip fracture of the base of the distal phalanx of the fifth finger.

The one good thing is I was not on my bike or my Corvette. A few months ago I changed out all the steering components to heavy duty parts made out of chromoly which is 200% stronger than stock. Glad I did that because it held up well. Since this happened I have been researching dash cams.

Anyway, here is some pictures because I know the Evo section always likes pictures.

Yikes! That doesn't sound good. Nice that you've got a heavy duty vehicle that can absorb the punishment!

Speaking of Jeeps, Angie liked the color of my new Ram so much, yesterday she decided to buy a Cherokee in the same color. Kind of a "girl Jeep" if you ask me, but she likes it. Its got the V6, and is nice and snappy.

Ram calls the color "delmonico red" and Jeep calls it "velvet red" but side by side, they look identical to me.

While we were at the dealership yesterday, I got a Mopar oil filter for the Ram. Went ahead and did the first oil change today. (She's got just over 4k miles) Finally found something I don't like about that truck: The oil filter location pretty much guarantees making a mess, even with a plastic bag over the filter.

What do you think about change intervals on those? I used Mobil 1 5W20. The computer said I was at 59% oil life, but I wanted to do the first one early and get started with the synth.

From here, what do you think? I'm guessing maybe let it get down to where the computer says 20%? I have a hard time feeling good about these long change intervals.

I don’t like the long oil change intervals tgat are common these days. When I bought my 2014 Wrangler, I got free oil changed for life every 5,000 miles. That to me is a reasonable interval. I am at almost 91,000 miles now. It has the 3.6L pentastar engine.

A few years ago I brought it to get my usual oil change. When I left I smelled burnt oil but figured they probably spilled some oil on the exhaust or something. The smell kept getting worse and after almost two weeks it started dripping and leaving a few drops on the pavement.

I returned to the dealer and told them about it. They said the oil filter adapter was cracked. It’s going to cost over $800 to fix it. I told them there is no way I am paying tgat and it wasn’t cracked when I brought it in and was cracked when I left. They ended up fixing it for reee which took all day. It turns out the oil filter adapter is part of the oil cooler. The oil cooler sits in the middle of the V of the engine. It is made out of plastic and gets brittle, hence eventually cracking g during an oil change. Changing it involves removing the fuel rails, I take manifold, and a whole bunch of stuff. I learned this by watching you tube while waiting. The majority of the cost of repair was going to be labor due to the extensive disassembly and reassembly required.

The fact that they took card of it despite being out of warranty is another example of why I bought from this dealer which is about 40 miles from my house when there are a two other dealers much closer.

When I bought this Jeep I was trading in my 2007 Wrangler. The dealer near my house offered me five thousand dollars trade in. The dealer I bought the 2014 from gave me nineteen thousand five hundred dollars trade in.

I stick with 5k oil change interval on my 18 Sierra with synthetic.

Around 5k is a good rule. Screw the computer

I have always followed the manufacturers recommended mileage interval for lube changes, I have never worn out an engine in 50 years of driving. I had an `04 Grand Marquis (4.6L v8) that I bought new, changed at 7,500 mile intervals, and donated the car to a charity at 275,000 miles on the odometer. The car did not use a drop of oil between changes.

On my truck I will follow the computer and change when it tells me to. Modern automobile engines will outlast the rest of the vehicle.

Apparently the break is pretty bad and much worse than the low resolution screen captures I posted indicate. It’s also across the joint

On Friday I am getting pins put in my finger.

Tomorrow I go to the my regular doctor for preauthorization for surgery.

Thursday I go for bloodwork, ekg, etc.

Friday I get the surgery

Follow up on the 11th
