Peace and Quiet with an Evo!

I retired from my job in 2005. First thing I noticed is that it is the first time in my life since I started to kindergarten, that I do not have to be somewhere. When it is hot during the summer I ride in the morning while it is cool. In the spring and fall during the warmer hours of the day. Coffee and cake anyone. The physical ailments curtail me doing some of the things I use to do, but I still enjoy riding the back roads around where I live about 2 miles out from a small town.
Cell phones have made it possible as if I have problems I just speed dial my wife who is always a push button away. We are both 78 years old. Nothing like the sound of a Harley with drag pipes early in the morning. Who needs a radio anyway. Every ride is an adventure. I may have a few more yeas of riding Lord willing before I give it up.

As usual, an inspiring post by Jim Kraft.
I am suffering a painful setback involving my thigh muscles for about a week. I have scheduled an appointment with a massage therapist Monday evening. My usual LMT is on a leave of absence due to a medical issue, so I am already tensing up at the thought of someone new, but I am kind of desperate, so I telling myself it will be fine.

Prot, I don't envy your health, sad to read about all the problems. Puts into perspective how fortunate I am at 72 to seldom deal with anything worse than stiff joints and occasional soreness. Have to be careful with my lower back, but so do most people my age. Hope you get to enjoy that long vacation.

That's good news Prot. Hope the protein continues to give you relief.

It is and my legs are a lot better. For a little while, it was becoming difficult to get in my Jeep, and that is a bunch of bs that can’t be tolerated.
On November 9th I am heading to Houston for a big concert. I am taking the Jeep as I am not ready to ride.
The concert is called Vets Aid and is organized by Joe Walsh of the Eagles. 100% of the money goes to veterans charities. The last one raised $795,000
This year’s line up is Joe Walsh, ZZ Top, Sheryl Crow, Brad Paisley, Jason Isbell and the 400 Unif, and The Doobie Brothers. It will be at the Toyota Center. I have also been invited to a VIP lounge before and after the event. It isn’t a meet and greet, but it is private bar, concessions, restrooms, lounge. The cost of admission for that is only $35, so I jumped at the offer. I work long crazy hours at a job that nobody appreciates but I make good money, so I figured why not.

Went into my crowded garage this afternoon. Repositioned my bike in there. It was the first time I touched it or sat on it in a long time, close to two years I think. There is a thick layer of dust on everything. Some rust is starting in spots but I think I can polish it off.
It gave me a feel for things in terms of weight. Admittedly I was nervous and wondered if I would be able to handle it or just drop everything. I figured I had nothing to lose and am fed up with living like an invalid. Even though I was nervous, the weight wasn’t bad and it was all about nervousness, not necessarily weakness. So that gave me some encouragement.
Some stuff was taken apart but not put back together because I had started something but encountered health issues and stopped.
Looking around, it was when I was messing with the idea of a tachometer.
I decided I am just going to put everything back together that is apart, including the factory speedometer and no tachometer, for now anyway.
The tach I found laying around looks good and I like it but it causes the loss of automatic turn signal cancellation. I might revisit this later on.
The task at hand is to get things put back together, empty the fuel tank, get it running, and afterwards get it cleaned up.
Oh, and my nosy neighbor decided to organize my garage for me without my knowledge. While it is certainly neater, I can’t find ****.
That’s ok. I will deal with it and am finding things.
I have not found my factory service manual.
Looking at the speedometer, it is obvious how things need to be hooked up, except for two wires.
There are two wires, one coming from each of the speedometer lights. They come together in a plastic connector that should slide onto a spade that supplies power with the ignition to either of the on positions. I have not found where the spade is that it needs to slide on.
The battery is pretty dead, which is not surprising.
I didn’t spend too much time in there today. It was mostly just an assessment of things. It was pretty damn hot in there but I think it will cool off in a couple of days.

What year bike do you have?
IIRC you have a Heritage but I don't remember what year.

I am not messing with the tach since it eliminates the self canceling feature of the turn signals. I am just putting the stock speedometer back together.
95 Heritage Softail Classic
I know Since it is just the backlight for the speedometer any switched power source will do but since they have a connector on it might as well look for the spade it slides onto like it was.
