Truth be told, I only threw away my grits and I stuffed my breakfast burrito in my backpack and my bottle of orange juice on the side pocket.

Ah - grits! I'd throw them away too! My first visit to the USA was back in 1985, not a good year, as the currency exchange rate was bad (for us, but good for you chaps if you had come to the UK!), so we had to economise at meal times. Only had grits once......

That's what all my Southern friends have told me, guess I haven't had them done right yet. Even when we've been together at a restaurant and they're saying how good their grits are, the waitress gives me a bowl of awful grits. I think they have two pots back there, one for Southern accents, one for the rest. In spite of around 3 years in Southern accent states, I never picked it up.

I think my one experience was enough to scar me for a lifetime! Fortunately no enterprising American has thought to export them across the Atlantic - yet! Now something you can send over pdq is some frozen custard - the Culvers we had in Minnesota was divine.....

Got that right. Under cooked and too thick is awful. Too watery is also bad.

Some people put all kinds of crazy stuff in them. I know some people that put cracklings in them and it just grosses me out thinking about it.

Sausage gravy or ham gravy in them is also nasty sounding.

Shrimp is a popular thing to have with them or in them but that has no appeal to me.

I like them with a little butter and salt or with cheese, maybe a little butter with the cheese.

All this talk of grits has me thinking about My Cousin Vinnie
