I was just browsing the bikes for sale thread, it just blows my mind buying and selling so quick. Some nice bikes that I wouldn't be selling. But who knows may have family, health or some other issues. It also amazes me about how many different models of Fatboy's there are?
Eve, just catching up on recent posts (you all seem to get busy in here after my bedtime!). As mentioned, Ikon shocks are born out of Koni, who were a top-line shock brand in their day, but less so today IMHO. There is a new kid on the block worthy of your consideration, JRI, US designed and made and born out of Penske shocks. Now those people really know their stuff and are bang up to date! Give Howard a call at HDF sponsor Motorcycle Metal, who is a shocks guru himself and offers members discounts. He will ensure you get a suitable pair of shocks, with the correct springs to suit your modest weight.
You are correct regarding the Ikons, Graham. They actually proved to be a pretty good shock on my WG. I ended up with 2 sets of springs and 2 different tunes for 1-up or 2-up loaded. Wouldn't hesitate to run them again. But then I got my Ohlins from Howard, and they are much smoother. Considerably more fussing to adjust them in the beginning, simply because of the amount of adjustments available and determining how I actually wanted them to feel. The JRI stuff is supposed to be another step up the ladder in performance, but I'll continue to run Ohlins on this bike.
Wonder how Howard is doing these days. Haven't needed his help for a long time, but he was sure there when I did.
Howard is still pushing forward the boundaries of Harley suspension! He now offers a forks and trees upgrade for touring bikes and recent Dynas, with Ohlins' fully adjustable cartridges - now how about 49mm front forks and Ohlins #6 shocks?!
