Hey gang,
During my nice Sunday leisurely ride I noticed the Ole' Boy was idling high, almost like the choke/enricher was still pulled out. Then I actually got to ride 3 days this week to work and errands and noticed after warm up, it seemed to be running high, sounds a bit like a diesel (not really but had no other way to describe it).
While I know you really don't want an Evo to have the "potato potato" sound because sufficient oil doesn't make it to the top, I really am not happy with the idle on this bike.
Questions: 1) How do I adjust the idle on a 98 evo? 2) what is the lowest it should be set at? 3) Anybody have a good Red Velvet cake recipe?

OK. This is from my wife... Using the chocolate cake mix gives more flavor to the cake.

Quick Red Velvet Cake
1 package German Chocolate Cake mix with pudding
1 cup sour cream
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup oil
1 bottle (1 ounce) red food coloring
3 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Grease and flour 2 9" round cake pans.

Mix all ingredients on low speed of electric mixer for 1 minute until blended. Increase to Medium and beat 2-3 minutes, scraping sides of bowl. Batter should look well blended.

Divide batter between the prepared pans, smoothing it out with the rubber spatula. Place the pans side by side in oven.

Bake the cakes until they spring back when lightly pressed with your finger and just start to pull away from the sides of the pans. 28-30 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool for 10 minutes. Remove from pans and cool completely before frosting.

Cream Cheese Frosting
1 package (8 ounce) cream cheese - room temperature
1 stick butter - room temperature
3 3/4 cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Mix cream cheese and butter in electric mixer until well blended. Add powdered sugar a little at a time until mixed. Add vanilla. Blend well on medium speed until fluffy.

Idle speed should be 900-1100 I believe. Depending on the cam, of course.
I had mine too low for a while and there were some ridability issues.

 

It depends on what kind of carb do you have.

Did you notice you got the recipe before you got an answer to your idle question? That's the way it works in P&Q

Manual says 1000-1050... at least Bertha's did. Some guys like it lower to get the "Evo lope" at idle - but do not set it any lower than 900, or you're flirting with oiling issues. I like 1000.

If you have a CV carb, the idle adjustment is a phillips head screw on the throttle plate, where the cables hook onto. 1/4 turn is usually good for around a 50 RPM change in my experience.

 

If I wanted sanity I sure wouldn't check in with THIS thread! But all this tuning stuff does approach insanity after awhile! I'm just thankful that Mr. Wizard is darn so good at it, and is willing to lend his expertise so freely...
