Peace and Quiet with an Evo!

Another Evo fan here..95 FLHC My first was the 86 Heritage...The Ol girl has 60k on her and is just now starting to show wear. Had the replace a stator recently, dang thing was a mess, burnt wires and copper was wasted. Charging like a champ now.
Hope to pick your brains soon...looking for suggestions on a bit more power,. Put an S&S super E on her and V&H true duals. Made a nice difference. Rear valve cover leaking a bit and having a HUGE blowby problem, oil all over pipes. I do run her pretty hard. A/C and filter always have oil on them. She ALWAYS starts and won't ever let her go.... Glad to meet you all...

You could try running her a half-quart to a full quart low... it may solve your blowby problems. There are lots of causes for blowby... Running the engine hard is one of the main ones... but I'll let the pros here comment. I have the same damn problem with my new 110" on Buster though... oil misting out of the A/C... just seems to be the way these big Twins run - at least above idle anyway. An Arlen Ness Big Sucker II finally solved the oil misting problem on Bigger Badder Bertha, our '95 FLHTP - but if you have oil all over your pipes you may have a different issue. Is it coming from your A/C? Check your breather bolts. You can also enlarge the oil drain holes, which will allow more oil to drain down out of the rocker boxes. There are also LOTS of threads about this issue... do a search and a lot of things will magically appear from the archives.
By '95, the Evo engine was nearly indestructible. All of the really important refinements were in place by '95. You can abuse the heck of out these engines, and they'll just keep running. Bertha runs like TOP... except for that front base gasket weeping... I just am not sufficiently motivated to take apart the whole top end to fix it... yet.
If you're still running the stock cam - REPLACE IT! It's best used as a paperweight. I lot of guys here run the Andrews EV27 cam - but I run the V-Thunder 3010 cam. It delivers excellent performance, excellent fuel economy (Bertha gets 45 MPG), and will pull hard from about 2800-3000 RPM right up to red line and never be "all in". It likes some revs to really come in - but it's a pretty amazing cam in my book for a heavy bike - similar to an EV-27. Be sure to replace the POS INA cam bearing with a full-complement Torrington B-38 (about $8 from Georges-Garage.com, etc.) if you put in ANY aftermarket cam. And you'll need a cam spacer - .055" is "normal", but you may need a .050" or .060", depending on your engine. A better cam will really wake up your Evo engine! And just about ANY cam is better than the "EPA-pleasin'" stocker... just make sure you use only ONE, with FOUR bumps!
Good luck keeping your checkbook balanced in this Evo House of Horrors!
Oh yeah... newcomers to this thread need to bring - otherwise the proprietor - Graham "Big Johnsonstock" Brown - will be quite displeased. If you're confused, read through the 50-odd pages of this quite macabre thread... it may serve to clarify the otherwise-inexplicable behavior(s) to which I am obliquely referring...

Well we finally closed on the new house in SC last Tuesday, got the painters in there painting the place the colors momma wanted. He is also painting the garage to include the floor with that speckled epoxy paint along with two coats of clear with anti-skid added to it. Can't wait to get down there. Right now we are packing up the tools and some of the inventory, the rest i will be selling to a buddy that has a shop about 50 miles from here. I hopr to be settled in the house by Thanksgiving, then I should be able to start searching for a shop in earnest.
I have to fix a small leak in the FLTH's primary, put a new clutch and inner primary on the shovelhead, and have fresh rings and bigger valves in the sporty before we go, so things will be busy. Wish us luck.

The folks in SC are gonna be lucky to have you and your wrenching knowledge so close, MIA!
I've gone the other direction. Wife and I drove up to Prince Rupert over the past 4 days. Taking our time in the work van, as I have work up here for the next 4 months. She flew home to Vancouver about an hour ago.
Usually this time of year PR is getting hammered with their average 350mm of rain per month. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prince_...itish_Columbia
BUT- the sun has been out for the past 4 days, and the ride, the views, the ocean and mountains are SPECTACULAR! Really indescribable.
On Sat, the day we got here, the Annual Toy Run was happening in Rupert (didn't know) and of course the weather was superb. About 30 bikes took part in this small town, and then the dance was held in the hall across the street from our hotel (didn't know that either). All it did was rub in the fact that I left our WG at home, despite having more than enough room in the van to bring her.
Rain is expected to start tomorrow and end..... ??? 2500mm / year they say.
Good to meet ya, axODB.
I too recommend leaving 1/2 qt low when filling the oil. Fixed my issues.
Oh, and I have extra paper plates and forks and stuff...

Nope....no riding for me yet. Spent the weekend doing little stuff around my moms house and going to classes. The wife and I are now Technician class Ham radio operators.
