The Samson pipes are better finished than these SuperTrapps, but as for fit there is little in it. My Samsons were TDs and I couldn't keep the rear pipe gas tight at the head, or stop it occasionally 'taking a rest' on the top of my primary chaincase. I gather later bikes have a different shaped bump on the top of the chaincase, so the Samson rear pipe will clear it with room to spare, but I don't know when that change was introduced. I suspect there was enough movement on my bike that the rear pipe occasionally touched the chaincase, which is what shook it loose at the head. So to the owner of a later bike, yes I would recommend Samson! I only had their pipes, with S&S oval mufflers.

My S&S motor has IST ignition, with a knock sensor, and when the rear pipe rattled it would upset it and back off the engine. That is a darned nuisance, to say the least. I have only run my SuperTrapp in the yard, so have yet to see if the very close fit IT has with my bike causes any problems. I didn't take any suitable pics of it to see how the front Samson pipe got around the timing cone, but the SuperTrapp is too close for my liking! There may be more clearance on a factory Evo.

More news when I get to take a decent ride out and see how things are on the road.

Bike has survived set-up and trial by dyno, with its new SuperTrapps. Yet another snag with those darned things. I mentioned not coming with O2 plugs, but sourced a pair after a few days. Screwing them in, innocently, they soon went tight, so I assumed they had a tapered thread. Not so - the threads were crap, the plugs wrecked and the holes needed to be run through properly with a tap. Who keeps an 18mm metric tap in their back pocket?!

Despite all that, the motor has a perfect torque curve, peaking at 107TQ and 100 or more from around 3,000rpm. Runs really sweet and rolling the throttle is very rewarding! I have picked up about 15TQ at 3,500rpm.

Don't have a print-out yet, as their printer was down, but will post results when I have them. Bike is reasonably clean, so will try to post a fresh photo soon!

GR,
FYI 18 MM is common spark plug thread. We usually chase the threads with a thread chaser for plugs.

Hi John, not only did SuperTrapp not include the bungs, they also failed to include a tap, or suggest using one! I watched as my S&S man tapped out the holes. It was a challenge to get the tap to start in the threads and plenty of swarf came out - they were only partly cut. Not impressed!

I had the super trap pipes and had to do some grinding and adjusting to get them to fit ran them for a year then decided to get the R&B racing black hole. The fit and finish was amazing they just fit perfectly the sound is much better and lots more power, it came with the bungs and plugs plus the aircraft nuts which make it much easier to bolt them to the head. I put on the 6 Gallon from Custom Chrome which fit no problem I think they look better as well.
