ARRRG! I ne'er be a thinkin' 'bout THAT, matey! But you be right!
I'm lucky to live in north Georgia, and the beautiful mountains are only an hour away. We ride up there all the time, and into western NC for longer rides.
But the BEST ride I've been on in awhile was the Ride to Remember on Sept 12 that I wrote about earlier in this thread, sponsored FREE by CycleWorld of Athens, GA, to honor and remember all those who perished in the 9/11 attacks, and all of the brave firefighters, policemen, and of course all of our brave Armed Forces personnel.
We had 600 bikes going from Athens, GA up to Hiawassee, GA on a stunningly BEAUTIFUL full-sun day, with police escort and everything. At one point, we were snaking down into a mountain valley, and came around a curve, and there was a Care Flight chopper sitting there about 100 feet away and 30 feet off the ground, just hovering in a little meadow, filming us. That gave me goosebumps! And at certain points, we'd be coming down a hill, and you could see the hundreds of bikes in front of us winding around the curves and going up the next hill as far as you could see. The Rolling Thunder was thrilling!
Talk about a "zen" moment... during that ride I just felt as if I was a very small part of something much bigger, and far more important, than just a ride. It was the most awesome ride I've been on in years. Next year, it will actually be ON 9/11 for the 10th anniversary Ride, on a Sunday. Gonna have to gear up psychologically for that one... I highly recommend anyone anywhere near Atlanta plan to ride in it.

Hey Woman,
Just waiting on time to leave to meet up with some friends for a little ride this morning. Most of my rides lately have to been to work 15 miles away. All of them have been good and love that feeling. Talking about zen! I know about that experience it every time I get on the bike. My mp3 player is also called a zen.
We had a little cooler weather in south Florida for a few days. Our cooler weather is lows in the low 70s this time of year, but now our low this morning was 78. Another month and it will be great again.
Hope you guys and guys have a great day!
Mike

NOT AN EVO... but pretty darn SWEET!
Came off the nite shift this morning to 8 degree celcius and its looking bleak for a bit, now I know why I enjoy the bagger so much, and the youtube video I made will help me through the upcoming season.
NGH you sure made some nice improvements since bringing Bertha home.

YIKES! 8 degrees C is WAAAAAY TOO C-C-COLD for this Southern boy to be out riding! Screw THAT!
What YouTube video??? Please post a link for us...
OK - here's what we did today... My 16-year old daughter has needed a car to get to school herself, and to her job, etc. for awhile now. I had been reluctant to just buy a car for her because have I bought all my own vehicles my whole life - and I'm just a cantankerous old fart anyway. But here in the ATL, it's really not an option to NOT have a car to get around in... plus she's a really good kid who makes good grades, etc.
We had been thinking about what we could get her, and we went to CarMax today to look around. After looking at a bunch of blaaah cars, NorthGeorgiaButterfly eventually got the idea to... heh heh... get another car for HER, and give her Mercury Mariner to my daughter to drive. And this is just for her STEPchild! See why I feel I am so lucky being married to her??? I MEAN...
SO... this is what NGB ended up buying today...this is really getting out of control... but both of my girls are happy now, and THAT makes Ye Olde Hawg happy, too! We got it for $22K, which I thought was a pretty good deal. It's a 2004 Nissan 350Z convertible, immaculate, that only has 20,000 miles on it - about 3,500 per year. Nary a scratch on it anywhere, either. I think it was some rich guy's plaything that sat in his garage for quite awhile and was only driven on Sundays... and bless him for taking all the depreciation on it for us!
Whaddya think, gents? Did we do well??? NGB seems quite happy sitting in it... don't ya think???

Funny things Corbin seats Ken. Apart from the studs, your old seat looks the same vintage as mine, which we have happily crossed continents on, both North America and Europe! Just shows how they can be so critical to comfort and enjoying the ride.
I finally have a solution for fixing down the rear of my 6 gallon tank, after messing around for ages. Almost too simple to be true, but more about that in my dedicated thread soon. I'm just so close to getting rid of that darned dent....

You certainly know how to spoil a girl!

I had forgotten about your 6-gal tank! I'll go look in your dedicated thread for updates... I kind of gave up on that idea in favor of more chrome.... MMMMM.... CHROME!!!

Yeah - I just never could handle that Corbin... it just felt like a park bench to my scrawny rear end, whereas the Mustang feels like a La-Z-Boy!

I love those fishtails! I have those same open fishtails on Bertha currently. Since I have the V&H true dual headers though, I was getting SO much reversion noise when backing off of the throttle, I had to put a 5/16" thumbscrew in the rear of each pipe, hanging down into it from between the pipe mounts under the bags - like the old Honda "Snuff 'r Not" trick from the 70s. Works great - took the really loud open rumble down to a "bhat bhat" sound, and largely eliminated the reversion nastiness. Still plenty loud though!
A Harley really shouldn't be too quiet... lest the untrained eye and ear mistake it for a friggin' Gold Wing... or something!
Yeah - NGB's new little hot rod is VERY RED indeed! A pure, nonmetallic "blue red" (no yellow in it at all) that's just beautiful to look at. Poor thing's sitting in the driveway right now in the pouring rain, looking quite forlorn... like "WTH? You just BOUGHT me, and now I'm sitting here in the RAIN!"
