growing up, one of the neighbours had cows. We bought fresh milk all the time. Every summer they would take the cream and make ice cream... oh man, it was amazing!
On top of fresh baked apple pie, or the peach cobbler, or another favorite-rhubarb cake.

Morning fellow EVO owners, I have a question concern possibly just a passing compulsive thought. With my 89 flhtp I've rebuilt the motor from connecting rod bearings up and its running like a top well except when it been runnng for many miles and the rockers sound like there chattering through the covers but I'm thinking that could be fom the harley synthetic oil I've been trying, replaced the shocks with progressive 416's, put new alpine stereo, installed lowers and pouches, replaced all circuit breakers , tried the smoked signal lenses but everyone cracked , rewired anything that was questionalable , new stator, head quarters rumble stick cam, moved timing setup to timing plate side, ordered all new brakes which turned out wasn't needed , new battery, new iso grips with throttle boss, basicly did everything I could do to make it mechanicly sound and comfort of riding. The tour pack needs some body work and the inner fairing has a cracks and breaks and really the silicone around the stereo looks like crap but works I guess.
So my passing thoughts... lately have been as I pull in to a tourist stop or visit the other bikers at the coffe shop after a late nite ride I tend to admire there shiney new looking bagers and how neat and clean the dashes and saddle bag clasps look and think about how nice my 02 wide glide sounds and clean it looks, yet it never gets any attention because I like the floor boards better. I've been thinking of tradig in or selling both my 89 evo and 02 dyna to buy a newer shiny bagger, I think ther;s a couple reasons for these thoughts , one being I once in a while have doubts of my evo making the real long haul but then again I can't say its let me down on anyof my day trips, then there's the factor of speed, I've heard of others on the new bikes doing 80-85 mph all day long and although I don't like riding at more than 65-70 mph unless I'm passing perhaps this is because I'm afraid I'd be hurting the old girl , she does seem to want to just follow the black top when I run at a resonable speed.
Perhaps I should just keep the old evo with its special personality andinvest a bit more into paint and body work?

Real sorry for the very long rant guys but I'm hoping you guys have had the same thoughts and could intervene a bit here.

First, by 'newer and shinier' are you looking at a late model Evo, like a 97, 98?
Seriously, some of the new ones are very nice. What are you looking at?
GR may talk to you about adding a bigger motor.
NGH can show you what is possible as far as shiny.
BTW, your 02 WG is supposed to be the best year for the TC.

I'll sit back now and listen to the opinions.

Now that you mention it I've seen some 97 and 98's that looked just as good as the twinkies and to tell you the truth the 02 bagger probably is the best twinkie available, the restof them scare me withthe troubles I've read about. Not really thinking my bagger is lacking anything in motor but like I said more than willing to listen. I think shiny is important but just coming in from taking pictures and vid of evo running and man did it sound differnt than the 02 running.

 

I love the way Evos sound! And they're simpler and very reliable. Sure we have some issues like base gasket leaks, etc. - but not the heat problems that twinkies do.

Speaking of shiny, when we were in the dealer a couple of weeks ago, my wife was looking at all the new bikes and said "they look just like Bertha, but they're not as shiny." That made me chuckle. And she's right... the overall H-D bagger look really hasn't changed much at all since the Evo was introduced, and the Shovelhead baggers before that looked pretty similar, too. You can dress up an older bagger with various parts to make it look very "new".

Anybody bring any cake, cobbler, pies, french pastries, ice cream, or anything else tonight? I'm in a hotel with none of these treats readily available...

I don't know what it is that makes me think of the newer twinkies, I almost feel like I'm cheating on the old girl.

 

Reasons why I don't want a twinkie:
1- I like working on my bike
2- I like that when u own an evo, ppl already know u have a vast knowledge on harley
3- I like that owning an evo show character
4- I like,I LOVE, the sound of an evo
5- I like that evos are becoming almost exclusive for true "get ur hands dirty" riders
6- I like that an evo will last forever
7- I like that everyone envies the sound
8- I like that girls love a vibrating evo...
9- I like that it marks it's territory (not in my house though)
10- I like that twinkie riders will always envy the History of the EVOLUTION engine

Reasons why I'd like a twinkie:
1-vibrates less

I know most will agree that what I like is what they like too
we have nothing to envy twikines,we can come across 60hp with cheap bolt ons, while the twinkie evolved from 88" to 95" and just gained 1hp in the process,asfar as chrome goes... what'sthe difference? twinkie chrome looks shinier because itīs virgin chrome... does not have the history our evos have... it's like comparing old caddy chrom to the new chrome on cars!

PS: brought some strawberry ice cream with some cherries but nobody wanted, so I ate it

 

just my 2c, ridemywg, but there is some really beautiful classic paint on that loaded ship of yours.
If I had to pick a suggestion it would be to freshen up the dash somehow. That's the part I'm believing you see the most. The rest is what we look at when you ride by.
(still waiting for Graham to hit you with the engine, brake, suspension and swingarm upgrade suggestions )

 

I'm here! On the subject of twinkies, mine vibrates more than my Evo in any of its incarnations.

ridemywg, I've owned my 1990 Evo from new and it has been through several states of tune. I started by riding it stock, but early in its life I did all the 'stage 1' things, plus an Andrews EV27 cam, which woke it up a lot. Living in the UK the 'International' models we got were more restricted than US versions, so they had more scope to improve them.

But one thing leads to another and after a few years I had it stroked, heads flowed, high comp pistons, etc and ran it for several years like that. I have commented about it here on HDF before and one or two of the regular dealers have commented that they know how to get similar performance without stroking. So if you would like a little more 'go' consider talking to a few of the regular specialists on here.

However, be warned! More 'go' begats the desire for even more GO! I now have an S&S V107T, which has a remarkably flat torque curve and a little over 100HP/TQ, which should be enough for any 'Evo' rider! But......

I'll save the other things I've done for another day!
