Default Rattling stock headers-96 FXDWG

O.K. guys,check this out;
I have been constantly tryin' to kill this rattling noise comin' from my stock head pipes on the W.G. Tried and tried and still couldn't kill it! I thought about changing out of my stock exhaust and going to Vance & Hines,but hey,those pipes are expensive AND I like my stock, punched out pipes. Solution?
I have a neighbor that owns about 10-12 fantastic motorcycles (five are restored Indians) who happens to own a muffler shop. I called him up,asked if I could come over and make some "modifications." I went over,we dismantled the exhaust and cut out the crossover pipe! We then welded them shut with some washers he had laying arount. I painted them flat black with some high temp paint to cover the welds. I then reassembled the pipes. Result?
I couldn't be happier! They are a little louder (In my opinion-they sound even better!)
Anyone here ever done this? I would like to hear your opinion.

Thumbs up

It amounts to much the same, I fitted a Fullsac kit that modified my dresser's original pipes to true duals. Like you say, noise is different. The exhaust only goes down one pipe, instead of some from each cylinder going down the other pipe.

I liked my modified system so much I now have Samson true dual pipes! My original system was getting very tired.
