carb Swap

That's the deal!
Avoid the early Sportster CV carbs, as they did not have an accelerator pump.
If you want to stay with stock air cleaner, the backing plate and cover are different to make room for the diaphram chamber and from '92 up the backing plate holes where they mount to the heads are different (bigger) but you can use original bolts with thick heavy washers. And likely you'd need to make a simple bracket for the enricher (choke) cable. They come off the left side of the CV and don't work well in the original mounting hole for the butterfly cable which attached to the right side on them.
You "can" modify your throttle cables to work, but it's a pain and changing the routing of them usually makes them stiff, so I'd recommend you change them too.
I went from 36 - 44mpg to 44-50mpg immediatley with mine, so it paid for itself quickly and now I figure evey rear tire I buy is already paid for in fuel savings

I just made this swap on my 87 FLHTC, any of the cv will work. I had to get cv manifold, cv throttle cables, and carb support bracket that I used with aftermarket teardrop air cleaner. I got everything together except cables on ebay. The support bracket was for the head breathers but just use shorter bolts and leave out the breather bolts since yours breathes from the case. I used a small breather filter from Advance for my crank case breather instead of putting it back into the air filter.

So, have you had a chance to ride and check it out? Or still waiting on cables?
