Same oil usage as Speedy in my 98 FXDWG evo. When I changed from the dino products 2 yrs ago it quieted down the engine and trans shifts smoother. Enough evidence for me.

maybe we put to much creadence in being brand consiousness, i don't know. But my dad rebuilt my bike 80 thousand miles, he shakes his head every time he sees it because he said he was mostly drunk when he built it. Not only that it is built 93 inches or so with cam and head work with a ikuni. I have always run Castrol 20-50 syntek(engine, tranny, primary). But i hear so many things regarding oil..nothing beats Amsoil, Royal Purple, Mobile 1 and "Your oil needs to be specifically for MC's" Maybe its all just bull**** but my FXR has a total of about 170K total and it seems to work changing it every 1,500 or so however this time i have pushed it to about 3,000.....hum.
You know we do ride harley's so i guesss it is in our nature to be hung up on brands......

I ran Mobil 1 synthetic in my 85 FXR. Either 5 0r 15 w 50. (can't recall, had a crash in '03 so was out a bike until last fall.) I noticed a diference in engine sound as soon as I used it. It also ran about 10 degrees cooler. I think it was American Iron had the great oil debate in about 3 months worth of issues. lots of good oils, depends on your brand preference. some of the builders were stating Mobil as a good oil. I liked it. Up here in the middle of Canada, a 4.4 litre jug runs $39.99. I buy Canadian Tire full synthetic 5w50, 4.4 litres for $28.99. they all meet a certain criteria. Way I got it figured, you need an oil only so good, after that you don't reap any benefit. The manual calls for an oil change every 5000 miles. Good enough for me. I stick to a Harley filter though.
