Click.....click......nothing....
Hi
My 89 FLH has been giving me some recent troubles. The starter being one of them.
I havent run the bike in a week or 2, so when I started it, it was a click, click then cranked and started. Once I had it running, I let it run around 2500 rpm for about 20 minutes or so. After shutting it off, it would just click and wouldnt start. The battery was charged about a week ago. This problem has been ongoing for awhile, but I could always, eventually get it started. Now it wont. The charging system is new(coil in primary cover). I have full voltage on the + wire going to the solenoid, but nothing coming out when the solenoid clicks. Are the solenoids serviceable or replaceable?

Thanks

RE: Click.....click......nothing....
DO NOT use a car battery...the Amps are way too high and you \\;are taking a chance of damaging your system. Granted the clicking comes from a bad battery or a bad hold in contact in the selinoid. If your battery is two or three years old replace it and check the voltage out put of the alt. you should read 13.5 to 14.2 on a volt meter at the battery at 2000 rpms.

this link is to bike bandit..just pick the bike then section you want to see diagram then enlarge/zoom..the list of replaceable parts is on the bottom...i find that batteries are ussually good for about 3 years with-out a battery tender in use...you may have full voltage but NOT enough amps to start do to bad battery or the ground or (+) could be loose ...could you have battery tested? or maybe just replace battery..let us know.

RE: Click.....click......nothing....
The majority seems like the battery is dead. I would have thought that once the bike was running and idling, it would charge the battery. Afterall, it did start under its own power. Could the headlight and running lights created more of a drain than the alt puts out? I havent checked with a volt meter yet, but should the battery be charging at idle speed? What is correct idle speed?
