Default petcock/ fuel filter

Just curious about this. I was sitting next to my bike enjoying a cold one I looked at the glass fuel filter and it was full about 10 minutes later it was empty. is this normal? I have a manual petcock that is turned off and a new makuni carb. If this isn't normal how do you prevent this?

This is normal I really don't like in line fuel filters especially running between the cylinders

ok, I'll bite. So why don't you like in-line fuel filters?

They tend to vapor lock sometimes especially running them between the cylinders

Huh? I never had that happen? AlthoughIwould not place my fuel filter between two vibrating, hot as hell cylinders. Why did you place your filter there anyway??

If not between the cylinders, where else can you put the inline filter? On my '90 Ultra the petcock is towards the left front, close to the rear of the front cylinder and the fuel line goes almost straight across to the carb, if I added an inline filter I would have to loop it around the horn and VOES and hope the bend to come back in between the cyclinders was not too much. The other alternative would be to put it between the cylinders risking vapor lock. I bought a new, fancy Pingel filter but never installed it.
