If you have a 4 speend case you can't run a 5 speed case (frame is diffrent). You can get a gear set from baker and use your cases . That is the best thing to do

I put an Ultima 6 speed in my softail, love it.
Does it change the first 5 gear ratios or does it just add an over drive?

Just curious and I have been thinking about putting one in mine.
The first gear is taller, the rest are the same (5th is 1:1) and 6th is Overdrive, to be used at speeds over 65mph. In AZ the Interstates are 75mph, itmakes 80mph feel more like 60mph on the evo. (I have a 100" Evo, so the taller first didn't bother me.)

I have my doubts about a six-speed box. They seem to add an overdrive, not provide a set of closer ratios.

Most Harleys are already over-geared and even Don Branch reckons the first tuning mod to a TwinCam is to lower the gearing! We have fitted a Screaming Eagle kit to my wife's Dyna, reducing the crankshaft sprocket from 25T to 21T. It really gets up and goes now! Top gear is around 19mph/1,000rpm.

So if the TwinCams are leaving you behind, don't tell them that! You either need to change down a gear to keep up with them or a lot more power. Raising your top gear with a six-speed box is not likely to help!
