EVO 1340 : Idle Speed Different When Engine Is Hot/Cold ?

RE: EVO 1340 : Idle Speed Different When Engine Is Hot/Cold ?
Very normal for my '97 Heritage.
I have myidle setfor900 RPM warmed up. Runs around 800RPM dead cold. 1100 with the enricher wide open dead cold. And, 1000 RPM in the summer heat.
Might have an intake leak if youare gettingcarb cough/backfire through the carb.
Does it stall often after warm-up?Mine stalls occasionally until fully warm and occasionally if the temps are really hot or if I am running hard.

- yup , sounds exactlylike what my motor is doing too.
-too low idle , and the oil can't make it up to the top
of the head ?Thanks for the warning.
cheers.

My does the same, seems to be the norm. Need to check the idle speed, shouldn't let it idle under 1000rpm(manual says 900 to 1100 I think) You won't get the sound you are after, but the evo's don't oil very well under 800 so you risk knocking the bottom end out of it. I usually pull the enricher to keep the r's up till it's warm, then mine idles @ 1100rpm, still has good sound but not the potato.

Do you have problems with plugs fouling? I use the enrichener to get it started and swith to the throttle lock to warm up. If not, I would have to replace the plugs weekly.

The SS carb is the best carb to warm a bike with its fast idle feature. If you have a choke, choke to start then push choke in 3/4 of the way to keep your fast idle, when warm push it in all the way.

I used too, but I replaced the coil, and started letting it warm up for about 2or3 min. on full choke, then go to half before I ever leave on it.I think the coil was weak(it eventually dropped the rear cyl.) Then after 2or3 miles, I push choke off. Still doesn't idle high yet, but it's warm enough to run.
