Still like EVO compared to new motor

RE: Still like EVO compared to new motor
The TC's have really bad cam timing. The carb'd 88s close their intake at 37 degrees, which is too late to develop good low end torque on a stock motor, especially when it opens too late also. The EFI bikes are better at a 34 degree closing. The 96 is cammed to close the intake at 40 degrees!!! Thank the EPA for this, although I think Harley should be able to figure out something better. Also, the 1/4" longer stroke of the Evo (compared to thte TC88) makes for better torque, sound, and just that low end "feel" that all Big Twins should have.

My TC has an Andrews 26N cam and the EVO has an EV-27. Both bikes have had the same modifications. The TC makes95 lb-ft at 2300rpm. My EVO comes nowhere close. How much torqueis your Evo making? Stockoraftermarket cam? Most Evo's have been modified to run better, the same holds true for the TC.
I still prefer the Evo, it's just no longer able to do commuter duty.

Agreed, the twinkies just don't have the torque, and I HATE the heat they give off.

I find the Twin Cam to have plenty of power......but, I also find the EVO to have plenty of power as well.
I have never bought a Harley for sheer power and for racing needs. I have liked them due to their simplicity. It is a simple motorcycle and it works very well.
Honestly, I have no trouble keeping up with any of the Twin Cams I ride with. I frequently get much better fuel economy as well.....most of them get around 35-40 and I typically get 50-53 on my EVO's.
The FXR EVO was the best........

I like the sound and the feel of the evo in our '96 Wide Glide better than I do the TC in the 2002 FI Deuce. I don't know which is faster (both stage 1) but either is fast enough for me. Both seem to have gobs of low end torque.
They can just bury that '96 WG with me.

Yeahh yeahh yeahh, what I don't understand is why Harley had to mess around with the bore/stroke configuration?
The 80 cubic inch Evo had the perfect bore/stroke-conf., why they had to change it when the TC was introduced?
Did Harley changed it for Californian emission bla bla law's , just as they didwith thecarbs to EFI-thing
