Just how many FXR's are there?
#51
I bought my 1990 FXRP brand new in May of 1990. By 40,000 miles I added some head work, a V-Thunder cam, Thunderslide carb kit, K&N air filter, adjustable pushrods, Dynatek single-fire ignition and Supertrapp 2/1 exhaust. That brought the engine from 45 rear wheel hp up to about 70. Later I replaced the fork springs with Race Tech Gold Valve Emulators & springs, installed Progressive shocks and changed the swingarm bushings to some spherical bearing stuff. I've ridden through tropical storms and crosswinds that had tractor trailers pulling over. I once fell asleep on the interstate and crashed it at 75 mph, but was able to rebuild it. It's a little doggy compared to my Buell, and the fairing and the saddlebags rattle a lot, but I've been to hell and back with that FXRP and it's incredibly comfortable and I love it. The bike now has 101,000 miles on it and I realized yesterday that the growing puddle of oil under my beloved bike was caused by a crack in the right engine case. Hmmm...I could reman my engine and go back to stock 45hp (yawn) or invest four to six grand for a new, hi-po engine and then I thought gee, I could buy a late-model Sportster for that much (I love Sportsters), add a windshield and a pair of saddlebags and have myself another great long-distance bike, but I do love that FXRP. I gotta do a lot of thinking about this.
FXR's are definitely the best Big Twin that Harley ever built!
