I believe the EVO powered FXR was the best Harley ever designed. I am like others though....seeing less and less of them. Less and less EVO's out there as well.

Most have gone Twin Cam[:@]......they can have their Twinkies anyways.

1984 FXRT......best Harley I ever owned!!!!!!! Loved that machine!
How would you compare the ride and handling of the FXR with the Dyna?

Cool link, thanks. Wait till I tell my buddy with his 1 of 1,500 Ultra that they only made 755 of my FXRS-SP in 89.

The ride of the FXR is more comparable to the FLH models. They basically have the same rubber mounting system. The Dyna uses a totally different rubber mounting system, it works well.

I've owned several FXR's and severalDyna's over the years.....I personally prefer the FXR over the Dyna. I feel like I get more vibration at idle from the FXR than the Dyna. However, I feel like I get less vibration from the FXR while traveling down a highway.

As for handling, the Dyna line handles great and so does the FXR. On the open highway, I could not really tell a difference. However, at really slow speeds....the FXR seemed much lighter. The FXR just seems easier to manuever than the Dyna at slow speeds. Perhaps, the FXR had a lower center of gravity?

The FXR never captured the classic look of a Harley. Many thought it was too Japanese looking when they first came out. People lovedthe ride, but didn't appreciate the look. They also didn't quiet sell as well as they were hoping either....many were either riding Softails and Electra Glides. The FXR simply didn't have the look.

They started designing the Dyna in the late 1989. This bike had a totally different look from the FXR. It looked alot like the original Lowrider. It had the classic Harley look that everyone was after. The Dyna was a hit when it first came out. It was outselling the FXR.

Both are fine bikes.....but my favorite still stands as the FXR being the winner. I've been looking at several FXR's for the past few months......just waiting on the right one to catch my eye. Right now, it is a tossup between a 1992 FXRT or the 1993 FXR Lowrider with the anniversary paint job on it. Hard choice....

The FXR was and still is a fine machine.

I bought a 1987 FXR SP in 1999. First Harley I have ever owned and have been very happy with it since. I ride as often as I can and can easily spend the entire day riding comfortably.

I have an 06 Dyna Wide Glide and an 84 FXRP.I have done a little to the FXR such as carb, cams, lifter and Supertrapp 2 into 1 ss pipes.
The Dyna has V&H Big shots,Doherty Air cleaner and dyno tuned with a SERT.
The Wide Glide is more comfortable to ride due to my height and the forward controls.
The FXR is faster, handles better and stops better.Ithas the wet clutch but the same hard to pull controls. The wide glide is a one finger lever deal. The FXR you need a handful but itll jerk your eyes out of thier sockets if you need to stop.
In the rain that FXR will whup anythings ***.Ive had it sideways a few times and it has to be one of the easiest to recover from bikes Ive ridden. If you get in a jam you just roll off the throttle and it settles right down quick. The Wide Glide feels like once its gone its gone.I may be wrong but
I dont want to find out

Sandhog,

I just put the hydrolic cluth conversion on my 87 FXR, I have a barnett clutch in it and the lever used to be a pain (literally), when sitting in traffic like on a poker run. Now it feels like air.

In response to sandhog,
I have a 93 FXRS-SP and it handles fantastic, and it also stops very well. I have a road king also and find that the FXR is more enjoyable to ride even on long trips unless I am riding 2 up.
The 31deg rake makes the bike track like it is on rails.
I am in the process of installing floorboards and replacing the forward controls. May never ride the king after this.
Also nothing sounds like an Evo the sound of the TC is disapointing.
