why is it that my enricher is spring loaded and i have to use a peg behind the **** to hold it out ?

 

It can be adjusted to provide more resistance

It's spring loaded to impose a positive seat when closed. If left open, the additional fuel can foul plugs.

 

Loosen the hex mounting nut (on the back) then tighten the knurled ring on outer side. Re tighten the hex nut gently. I that is no remedy, time to replace cable.

Wooden peg is bad idea,. A wooden clothes pin works perfectly though.
