Default 4th gear noise

1992 FLHS, over the last 500 miles (guestamite) I've developed a noise when in 4th gear. Just turned 53k on the odometer. The noise sounds like the rubbing noise when you put two pieces of cardboard flat against each other and spin them in different directions. You could also say it sounds like when your driving 65+/- in a car and open the window a half inch. Only happens in 4th.

Makes me think something inside the tranny is rubbing and shouldn't be. Any ideas? Hopefully I won't need to rebuild the transmission.

Any metal particles in the trans fluid? That would be a good start, then check primary fluid and go from there.

Did not notice any metal shavings/bits, then I wasn't thinking to look for any either.

The small bearings get side loose and move back and forth causing what you have

pull the clutch cover the front one is easyer to move in and out using a vise grip then the rear as its connected to the main shaft any in and out is not good new it’s zero movement
