A stock CV is Fine so is a S&S super E or a Mikuni, don’t get the knock off version of any

I changed out to a Super E years ago on my Stock 1997 1340 EVO with EV 27 cam, same carb has been on my bike 26+ years and never a rebuild! I do run non ethanol free pure gas a a mix of Sta-bil and Marvel Mystery oil the last 26 years! I love the S&S and my torque cam! Pulls hard, runs a little rich perhaps but I like it that way! S&S is my choice and to this day that heavy Chrome tear drop cover is my favorite of any air cleaner I have ever seen. I did change out to the extra wide K&N filter a few years ago.

I remember back in the 90's when I chose a S&S carb, just like now I remember so many folks that were fans of the CV stock carb.
For me personally, the reason I choose S&S, I will admit long before I ever owned a bike, that look of that tear drop cover was something I said if I ever buy a Harley I want that!
Same with slash cut drag pipes ( showing my age and I found out was not a good match on a EVO, I had to learn what back pressure was the hard way ) but to this day I like the look and sound of a simple set of $65 (as priced in the 90's) Cycle Shack, slash cut drag pipes! We do buy with our eye and ears!
I used a small Harley shop and a fantastic independent shop ( He even had a dyno in 1997 ) but between me going to both shops multi times and me trying to set the CV up, buying one of those Thunder Jet kits, my CV carb was always lacking.
Even then I realized my bad experience with the CV was the exception and not the rule ( as so many folks love the CV) but like someone suggested this was before internet and it was a rabbit hole I could not get out of and I was tired of messing with it.
But then I also had to learn the hard way, Just because my local gas station had a pump with Sunoco Racing Gas, it was not a good idea to use it! all but melted the rubber / gaskets in that CV carb so that was my excuse to end the misery and was a good excuse to go S&S!
So the S&S fixed my issue as it ran better and stronger and my butt Dyno suggested it was a better match to my bike / EV-27 cam / V&H Straight Shots and gave me the look I aways wanted and I never had to mess with it once I got it jetted correctly.
