Ranger, Trans fluid looks clean and is right at the mark. So it’s got to be the engine to primary seal. Getting a parts quote from my local shop on all the parts I’m going to need.

Thankfully my old mans lift just opened up getting his bike wrapped up. Just bummed because I was planning on taking mine to a bike show Saturday.

It's not a difficult job, don't overthink it...just pull the primary, take off the primary drive, extract the seal with self-tapping screws and put a new seal in, then reassemble the primary. 2-3 hours work and you're done.

OR, drain and refill the primary, top up the motor oil and go to the show, fix seal at your leisure.

Well I’ve got other issues. Pulled the drain on the primary, got exactly 1 qt out. So it’s not transferring to the primary.

I think your only problem after sitting for 5-6 years are the Umbrella valves need replacing.. You never stated how much oil you put in on the oil change and you will get a false reading on the dip stick if you check your oil on the jiffy...

3.5 quarts plus now an additional quart or more. Manual says check oil on jiffy stand. Transmission is upright.

I do have some blow by if I run the freeway. Arlen Ness Big Sucker intake. And I have been scooting up the freeway more than I have in prior years and bikes mostly because it’s more capable. But run 65-70. Maybe some pulls to 80 if I’m passing.

so what’s involved with doing top breather umbrella valves.

I do believe we have the issue. Looks like I’m pulling rocker boxes.

I think my Choke is still sticking as well, but I’ll get the umbrella valves done then circle back to carb issues. Been a revolving circle on this old girl. Get one thing fixed an another thing happens. Probably a lot to do with it sitting all those years.

Umbrella valves don’t look terrible to do. Just got to pull the tank. Reading other threads saying to only use Harley ones?

Just to mess with your head completely...in more than one sense of the concept.

If your exhaust valve guides are stuffed, or seals have let go, you can lose oil and the motor won't smoke, you'll never see a trace of it, just disappears...
