Change the seal and check the pump housing for scoring. Looks like the bike is going to be really nice.

Thanks @Tommy C . I'm hoping so. Never intended to go crazy. But figured I had worked my hind end off all spring and summer. Why not finally do something fun. I'm not keen on resorts or cruises, maybe that will change if I ever find a SWMBO. But why not dump it into something I can enjoy longer than a few days of toes on the sand. My initial budget was $1500. Then said heck with it. Let's have fun. Hoping to have most of it together Friday night and Saturday. Cam bearing tool will be here tomorrow. So if anything I'll have the cam chest back together and possibly the jugs back on the bike. Just got to make sure I shim the cam and the breather gear right so this won't happen again and that shim end up in the bottom of the chest.

Hopefully get a bit done tonight while the old man's occupied with the Sportster he's dragging home today. Picked up some ultra slick on the way to the hot rod shop. And see.what incannget done these next few evenings. Nothing better to do. Raining and the Ham Bands have been relatively quiet in the evenings.

Hopefully we get a few nice days to do some break in. Between Weisco and Cometic it will be a lot of heat cycling for a while. But I am still going to baby it for 500 miles to make sure the rings are fully seated before I decide to explore what's new above 4k rpm.

But til then it's time to clean a few bikes out of the garage as once mines done currently has no place other than the lift to reside. Lol

Might want to clean your oil pan, or at least swab the bottom through the dipstick hole and the drain plug hole, see if there’s any metallic in there.
Evo’s filter oil on the way back to the pan, so it may be fairly clean.

For me, I make sure the pan is squeaky clean on a new build every time.

So what carburetor and what jetting are you going to use. Jet size is very important during break in..

I've got the late front filter. Pans been dropped and cleaned.

Carb is a slightly modded CV 180 Main, 46 primary N65C needle.

Well the new cam bearing is in. I purchased one of those cheap Chinese tools and it worked great coming out. Pressed the new well pressed the original back in looked at the lift seeing the brand new Koyo on the table said a few choice words pulled it back out and tht new one was definitely tighter going in. The tool seemed to bottom out before the bearing did. Found a thread on the tool, used the old bearing as a spacer and pressed the new bearing till it seated properly.

Definitely a better bearing over the INA. No spacing between the needles. Checked to make darn sure the bearing is square and I'm within .001" and that could be in my machinist rule I was using

Ran into a road block. Shimming the cam. With the original thrust washer in I have an insane amount of end play. By the time I add enough shims in to get things to .001-.016" the cam gear is ahead of the pinion and breather gears. So I'm guessing my brass bushing in the cover is worn??

With .055" of shims between the block and cam.
