The worst emissions cam of all time was the "C" cam in the California evolution bikes. It actually had negative overlap.

Thanks guys, saving my hip pocket here. Yes cam and Tappets will be new and I'll replace the blocks. Give it a couple short interval oil changes during break in just in case.

He physically saw my parts.

Looking at the skirts in those pistons I would think that you were running a little warm on that bike which would indicate a lien condition so yeah maybe your rings were worn more than you think and that's where all your oil was going...

Honestly I think that was a huge part of it. One of the last long rides on a warm day the motor was not behaving and running warmer than I had ever felt it. 95F day just had to keep moving to keepthr bike cool. I even had to shoulder hop 1/2 mile when I hit gridlock on the freeway and made it to the next exit.

Not taking any chances why everything in the top end will be new and refreshed. Between the breather gear shim falling out at some point and other things it's good I caught it when I did.

Will be inspectng the oil pump as soon as I can get a minute to myself in the coming weeks.

There is a big difference between new bike internals and ones that are running ok but have a few miles on them....too many wrenches/friends will spend your money for you. Fact is, internals look like that from quite early on in the piece. Hone, Re-ring and ride it like you stole it.

Took the opportunity to up the compression and have a bit of fun. Wanted to up the cam anyway and one thing led to another. And kinda went crazy.

Just read thru your thread (again) and, if it were my bike, I would consider swapping the 170 jet for 180. I had 45/170 in my stock 80" and it was running lean on the top end, swapped it for a 180 and runs great now. Keep an eye on that. Of course I'm at sea level, that might make a difference or maybe I'm just full of sh*t.

BTW good looking bike. Can't wait for the finish

Thanks @SparkyD I actually just put back in my 180 I started with before everyone said I was over fueling and my carb settings were bad. So I have a 46/180 combo with the N65C 1200 sportster needle without any shims. And put back in my undrilled slide for now. Double checked my float setting and it's spot on. And I am at sea level as well.

So hopefully when this is all said and done, she runs as good as she looks.

Thanks!!
