Crane Fireball Cam
Need a little help here. My current project is to put together budget Evo bottom end. Got the flywheels in the case (both '89), and oil pump ready to be installed. I would like to button up the bottom end, minus lifters. Cams are not cheap these days.
1) Got a good deal on an used, but useable FB 300-1 or FB 300-2 (hard to see if last number is 1 or 2). Anyway, so that's the first question? From Nightrider, Crane FB 300 is a drop in cam, so I know that should work fine. Is this a decent cam?
2) Cam gear has marking #7-0004B. Since being a "drop-in" cam, I'm assuming that it will work with my Red pinion gear. Looking for clarification.
If anyone has an EV13, EV27 or stock L-cam in good condition, let me know. Maybe we can work out a deal. Thanks.

I don't think you'll see a hell of a lot of difference between the Crane cam and the EV 13..

Daven, I have a New in the Box EV13 cam that I bought for my brothers bike some years back but he never used it.
Haven't talked with you in quite a while, a lot happened in the last 2 years with my mom. Got the FXR running and p/u a '75 FLH.
Let's get together for a coffee.

Forget everything else on the above link, just scroll down to the bottom of page 3, and how to measure your old cam gear with two .108" pins, then call up andrews directly, to order an EV13 cam, with the correct size gears on it (there are like 4 different size cam gears).
This is going to same you a lot of time, if the new cam you get has the wrong size gear on it, and you need to take the cam to a shop to press off the old gear from the old cam, and press it on the new cam.

As for ev13, great low and mid range for heavy two up touring bikes where the motor is going to spend most of it time, and EV27 with mid and high range, for lighter bikes that you are going to be playing rev ranger most of the motor life instead. Highway speeds, should be in the lower meat of the cam, but putting around town (above motor lugging), engine revs will be too low and will need to run in higher gear burning up more fuel instead to keep engine in meat of cam range.
And just a FYI, but if anyone is going to offering up a cam, then at least measure up the gear on it, so the new op knows if the gear has to be swapped or not, before he can use it on his motor.
