retro air filter

You really don't want to be sucking steel wool into your intake. And its filtering effect is about zilch, unless used in an oil bath like the old WLAs.

You can probably buy sheets of that foam and make your own replacements as they burn through. Dirt bikes use it as a pre-filter over top of their regular filter so you can cut them down too. I only know this because I have one of those filters I ran on my Ironhead about 40 years ago and have been looking into putting it back on just for gits and shiggles. ISTR it did used to have a permanent hole burned almost all teh way through it from the inside back in the day.

Thanks for the advice.
One of my plans was to put the steel wool between two tea strainers (already digged into my wife's kitchen ...) and copy the exactly shape of the filter casing.
But, I will take your advice and look for replacement foam. It seems the easiest way.

Yea Sure..because pre 1979 we had No idea what to call the Aircleaner...Right??
When that one came out...we called it a Mailbox, or sometimes Bread Box...as "Ham can" was In Use
