Default True Duals - yes or no?

I know opinions can vary, however I am considering changing over to a True Dual system for my '86 flhtc. One of the main reasons is to reduce the right side pip heat. The manufacturers do tend to claim that it does even up the heat, left to right. The other reason, I do like the look.
Any real world experience out there?
Any power loss/gains?
Any other things I should consider?

There will be some low-to-mid range power loss without a crossover. Depending upon the pipe it will be more or less noticeable. I've found less experienced riders tend to notice it less.

Thanks pocoj, I had thought about the crossover effect, not sure if I want to sacrifice any low end power, esp since the majority of my riding is 2-up.

I replaced the 2nd cracked Y pipe with a set of Paughco duals on my 84 years agoand it runs great. It also has an EV-27 cam so I didn't really notice a power loss. I have the V&H duals on the TC and like them as well.

Had bassani tru duals, didn't like the quality of the head pipes. Have now reinharts, and loved them. Had mik 42 ev27 and aircleaner and notice a ever slight increase, because of the stepped headder. With a woods w6h, 10:1 and branch heads added to above, holy cow. 2-up is out standing, only .010 over bore. Stock to stock set-up, I would beliver there is a slight numerical loss, however you do not feel it, imo.

I've been reading some of the other posts on this same question, and it really does seem to be divided. On one hand, riders have posted increased curves (dynoed) and others have a decrease. It does seem to depend upon the pipes used.
I guess it almost comes down to trial and error, and what feels right to the individual.
This is where a healthy "slush" fund comes in very handy

1988 FLHTC, I've put V & H True Dual with Wild Pig Pipes, Yost Power tube, ride two up majority of the time. Really enjoy the sound (wife has MP3 player!! lol) Had OEM mufflers noticed a loss of power changed to Pig Pipes noted increase of low end torque.

I have Rineharts on my 93 Ultra. A bit less on low end but certainly not the end of the world. I don't race

I just changed lifters and put an Andrews EV27 cam in. Helps in the mid range but again nothing eathe shattering.

I love the sound of Rineharts.

Vance & Hines duals. Haven't notice much of a change in performancebut I mainly got em because it makes working on the bike easier.

As far as I am concerned they have a better sound and the bike runs better.Whether you lose any power really depends on the mufflers you use.I have true duals on both my bikes,it also looks better.Personal preference.
