Let's see if I can beat this dead horse more. Without a trip odometer, you will have to use the old rocking the tank back and forth, and then gamble when to hit the closest gas station. At worse, you'll have 10-15 miles range on reserve, I'm guessing. Your petcock looks like it's located at the lowest point of that tank style.
If you have saddlebags, and you are taking a road trip, take along a MSR bottle. You can get them in different sizes. When you go dry, you'll know how much you put in. If you really want to see what range you have on the highway without an odometer and with your current carb set up, just carry the bottle with you on a test ride. Run the bike until you hit reserve, then count the mileage markers to see how many miles until you are empty. You will have to proximate speed if you don't have a speedometer.
What's the worse that can happen? Running out of gas in the middle of west Texas. No one has ever done that!
