An Impact is Absolute when taking off a comp bolt.. However assembling is a different story.
I use a locking bar for both procedures though..

I had seen an impact used a good many times to remove a comp nut.
You will get a number of opinions as to use it or not. Have seen an impact used to install a few too.
Most times I have seen it used was in a shop rather than a individual working on his own.

A lock bar can be made very easily. Matter of fact I have no less than 5 cause I loaned out or lost a few.

I'll remove one but have always used a lock bar and torque wrench to install.

I never cared for the stepped block to lock the basket. I always felt that it stretched the chain and pulled too hard on the IPB possibly causing damage.. Over the years I have made several locking bars With 1/4" SS, Carbon steel and even Aluminum to cover many different primaries from Shovel and Evo's to TC's and even Sportster's.. I wouldn't have it any other way.. They're very simple to make and work very well... Just watch the width of the material and round the end to fit the sprockets..

Yup got a few variations of locking bar's & blocks. You tend to collect this kinda stuff when you play with things like many of us do

Those locking bars go between the compensator gear and that other gearset that has the clutch basket inside?

Bottom left of compensator to top right of that other side to lock it?

I was a little scared to do that cause I thought it would chew up a tooth!

The main thing is to round the ends of the lock bar. Lets it set into teeth with no damage.

Have a couple myself and use them for install. They work great with chains. Belt primary, not so much for me.

I ran a Baker Belt drive on my Softail for 5 years and the locking bar I made worked fine .. for a while I couldn't keep a sprocket shaft seal in it for more than a couple of hundred miles so I was talking that drive off and on pretty frequently.. Never an issue...
