Default Cv carb hangs at 1000ish before settling to idle speed

Qhen the bike is fully warmed up, like coming off highway for gas, the idle will sit at 1000ish for 10-30 seconds before settling down to the set idle speed or 650-700 rpm. Shut down, fuel up, start bike, sits happily at the normal idle rpm.

This is a CV carb on an evo.

Any thoughts?

Usually means lean at idle, but that's constant. Sounds to me like unburned fuel in your intake since it happens after a highway blast.

700 is a bit low to idle an Evo, but I understand wanting it to run that low. 900 is better suited for the oil pump and these tachometers aren't the most accurate or easy to read.

Rich or lean, most all will do that under the conditions you stated until the combustion chamber cools a few seconds. You have no issues.

Most on hear will tell ya 900-1000 is as low as should be.
I'd keep mine right at 1000

Appreciate the feedback guys. The unburned fuel thing makes sense. It doesnt seem to be an issue anywhere else and its consistent and not getting worse.

They're all correct about the idle tho. 1000-1200 is where I like mine for justifiable mechanical reasons. Potatoes are overrated.

I can't keep mine that low, it doesn't like it and pops like crazy on deceleration.
1-1.2K idle is where she's happy. But that's just me.

Not just happy, but also healthy. The oil pump doesn't do **** at low RPM's so the only things getting oil are the lifters, and even that's a stretch.

Set the idle to where it should be and you'll not have an issue... that low is probably starving the rockers..

If you set the idle to the correct RPM, and the issue persists, it may be the throttle cable adjustment.

Dual throttle cables can cause some wonky idle issues if they are adjusted incorrectly (or failing).

I recommend disconnecting the cables and check them for free movement and routing.

Adjust per the service manual.
