Default Replacing front wheel on 96 Electra Glide with a 2009 Electra Glide front wheel

I have an aftermarket custom 18" wheel on the front of my '09 Electra and tossing around the idea of putting it on my '96 Electra and go with a larger wheel on the '09. Is this possible to do the biggest question I have is the Speedometer cable drive off the wheel on the 96. Would this be possible to convert somehow to work on the new rim. Also the rotor size work and match up with the calipers. I believe the axles are different sizes and bearings could be changed to work. I am thinking of doing this as it is hard to find any aftermarket rims that are decent looking to work on an Evo anymore that is not spoked. Thanks for any ideas or leads in advance. Marty

Schex3x has a thread in this forum somewhere. He accomplished this.
I think you can find some oem new take-off lowers for cheap on Craigslist then try a rear wheel speedo.
good luck!

This will outline the process, it will be a little different with the wheel you will be using.

It was 51 at 8 am in Rapid this morning, I'm liking this compared to the weather in Frostbite Falls. I saw two riding in shorts in the afternoon - I'll be riding to the shop tomorrow.

I put a 2010 front wheel on my 1998 Ultra. Used the fork lowers and the appropriate axle. Brembo calipers and the rotors were a nice upgrade.

Running the speedo drive off the newer front wheel is beyond me. Check to make sure your transmission has the raised hump or is actually drilled for it. The Road Kings transmission were always drilled for the Electronic speedometer. Most Electra Glides were not....but I have seen a few 1994-1996 models that the transmission was drilled, but with a cover installed.

I drilled mine several years ago.

Good grief! Have you just opened yourself up to severe questioning.
Every few months a newbie will ask how to drill the speedo hole and it turns into a ****-show thread.

You may as well make thread detailing the prices and having the moderators post a sticky.
