Default Stock 50k service questions

I’ve got a stock 1997 FLHTCUI. I’m coming up on 50k miles. Can I put stock style lifters, change cam bearing, base gaskets and be good to go? I’m going to learn to do this myself. If I don’t need a new cam I want to stay as close to stock as possible. Advice??

Are the base gaskets leaking? If not, leave them alone. Otherwise, wounds like a plan. Inspect the cam carefully. Mine was shot at around 55K, and one lifter bad. With that fuel injection, you do want to keep it as close to stock as possible. Changes in anything will push you outside of what the ECU is expecting.

Base gaskets are not leaking. You can see where they are starting to get damp. What cam should I use to be close to stock and all the lifters I’ve found on J&P’s website don’t specifically say stock replacement.

Use Johnson hylift lifter or s&s. As far as a cam that is close to stock se3 or the se4 if you can find them

If you do need a stock cam and it's not available from the dealer search network, you could call Andrews tech support and ask them. Very helpful and knowledgeable. The EV1 I'm running is just a tad over stock, what our bikes should have come with.

You can use stock lifters, a bit expensive.

Johnson Hy Lift have a good reputation, available from a member of the forum.

Lifters

Koyo B-138 or Torrington B-138 inner cam bearing.

If you decide to remove the cylinders, have your machinist true the bottoms, this will go a long way in preventing future base gasket leaks.

If it was my bike, and assuming you're going to pull the rockers so as to reuse the stock pushrods anyway, I'd go the extra step and re-gasket the whole thing, down to the bases. Cometic is good stuff.

I've got the stock L grind cam out of my '90. 36k miles on it. You're welcome to it for whatever you think is reasonable.

Anybody have experience with the S&S Super E carb kit from J&P Cycles for converting FI to Carb? Part description says it has everything you need to do the job. Thinking I may do this down the road if my FI ever gives problems. So far so good at 48,600 miles.

Thanks for all the replies about the lifters, cam bearing and other stuff from earlier post. Excited to learn more about this bike. It rides like a dream for a 1997 and looks pretty good too.
