Damper Bolts Stripped

Damper Bolts Stripped
I'm swapping the 35mm for a 39mm on my '86 FXRS and I stripped out the head of one of the old damper tube bolts on the new forks going on. I did some routing around online and saw several suggestions and videos on how to drill it out. I'm not having any luck after about 8 hours of drilling and am starting to get concerned that I went too far or that I may have used too small a drill bit. Anyone have any ideas on how to salvage something like this? Pics included.

Did you even look at the picture? Where the fvck is he gonna have room to get a damn chisel in there? Let alone, be able to smack it at an angle to get the bolt to spin?

To the OP, you need to drill the head of the bolt out to the size of the shank of the bolt. That way when the drill bit gets deep enough into the head of the bolt it just breaks free, then you can pull the damper rod out and remove the bolt with some vice grips once it's all outside the fork tube. You might be using too small of a drill bit and now you're just drilling into the threaded part of the bolt.
Oh, and go buy a damn set of METRIC allen wrenches. It's a 6mm hex head bolt. I've lost count how many damper rods I've taken out of Showa Harley forks.

OP as Twisted said get new drills.
Then use one that will remove the entire head of the bolt.
After you get the head of the bolt removed just disassemble the forks and you can easily access the stub of the damper bolt.
I had to do this once when I stupidly tried to use a ball allen to get that bolt out.
In my own defence the ball allen was all I had at the time.
