out of curiosity if you are swapping from 35mm to the 39mm why are you bothering to take them apart ?

I'm swapping the 35mm for a 39mm on my '86 FXRS and I stripped out the head of one of the old damper tube bolts on the new forks going on. I did some routing around online and saw several suggestions and videos on how to drill it out. I'm not having any luck after about 8 hours of drilling and am starting to get concerned that I went too far or that I may have used too small a drill bit. Anyone have any ideas on how to salvage something like this? Pics included.



what did you end up doing to get that out? I am in the same situation right now and don’t want to spend $1000 because of this freaking bolt

Speed outs. I got new drill bits and that helped but I still didn’t get it out. Went and got the speed outs and had them out in 5 minutes. Absolute lifesaver.
