I dont own a TC88.. but if I'm not mistaken I thought that there was a problem with eitherthe cam bearings or the rod bearingson the early TC's... I'm not 100% which ones..I would contact the HD dealer and ask...sorry I couldn't be more infromative

He doesn't own a TC88. I made the same mistake thinking he did in his other thread.

It may be the infamous INA cam bearing heading south. It's not too difficult to replace.
You should be able to knock it out in an afternoon easily. Don't wait too long, the
bearing has been known to cause major damage.

Yeah, I think I would open it up! about the only thing that would make that kind of noise on that side of the engine would be the cam drive gears, if the cam bearing is going south you need to take care of it NOW!!! If it is ok you will have the peace of mind that it's not the bearing, and you could go ahead and change it before it does become an issue. It's better to inspect it and have a few days down time. or I guess you could just keep on listening to the noise and have a month or two down.

OK now we will need some more info. is the noise always there? or 1; when transmission is nut. w/the clutch out, or in? 2; in gear with the clutch out. or in? 3; when moving? 4; in any certain gear? 5; does it change with engine speed? 6; does it change with road speed? is the noise worse or less at any time? and last, is there oil in the primary and transmission? I could prob. tell you what it is just by listening to it, but thats really hard over the internet, so any info you can give will help bunches.

If you have'nt tried it yet.....get either a auto stethoscope or a cutoff piece of broom handle or thick dowel rod.....and give a good listen all around the area....This usually helps ALOT in narrowing down the exact area the noise is comming from...[ not always of course ] Also might try and checking your fluids for METAL shavings or chips?....good luck
