Might add a inline fuse according to where on the bike you get the power from.

From NYS inspection site;
These items cannot cause you to reject a vehicle. The items are

  • fog lights
  • Lots more but not needed

Just for info in NY
I was a New York State Motorcycle inspector for years. The law states ALL lights that are on the bike at the time of inspection must work.

Was BSing with the TCH. He reminded me that you probably have circuit breakers. Choose one of the 15 amp breakers that are only on when Ing. switch is on.
Older breakers have a stud and nut to attach wires to. Run a wire from harness side of breaker to the switch for the spots (passing lamps) .

Most times when spots are added to a bike the power for them is a wire spliced on to the Headlight low beam wire near the headlamp itself.

Sorry it took so long, it's been a busy week. We did find the problem(s). Pinched hot wire, and a so-so ground. Rewired both, and now we're up and running.
